Q: How long are Honda recalls honored?
I have a 98 Honda Accord that now has ignition switch problems. In 2002 Honda put out a recall on the switch. It was never done on this car. This is known because of the lack of a punch mark over the 8th digit of the VIN. My question is, do these recalls expire or are they good until they are performed?

A: Safety recalls are forever. All tech. don’t always punch mark the Vin number. Have the service advisor run a history on your car so you don’t wast your time.

Q: Honda recalls,Toyota recalles,what happened to quality?
Honda recalled 1 millionvehicles last week and Toyota has recalled over 2.7 million vehicles in 2006 and has lawsuits over engine problems. So what happened to thier quality,I believe this is the end of quality products for them. And don’t tell me this is a good thing, when ever GM,Ford or Chrysler have recalls everyone says they build poor quality vehicles.
Work at Toledo Jeep assembly, home of Jeep Wrangler,Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro.

A: they sucked us in in the seventies with cheap junk and then started building slightly better stuff but at more expensive rates. They are not the quality myth that everyone thinks. Rat commie bastardos!

Welcome to reality.

Go GMC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God Bless the USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Q: How long until it comes out that the Feds ordered the Toyota & Honda recalls to kill their competition?
Remember, our government owns a car company now!!!

A: That was the first thing that I thought of when I heard the news of Toyota. Something is fishy because they have always been on the top of the reliability rankings.

Q: what are the recalls on a 2000 honda accord lx? i heard there is an extended warranty on the tranny?
is that upto a 100000miles or a 109000 miles, im confused. also does not being an original owner affect a recall?
so if i didnt change the tranny oil, does that affect the recall?

A: The recalls and the warranty extension apply to the vehicle, not to the owner so you should be covered if you are under the transmission warranty extension limits of 93 months or 109,000 miles.

Here’s the statement from Honda on the warranty extension:
In certain vehicles, a higher than normal number of
automatic transmissions may have defects in material
or workmanship that could cause premature wear or
failure. To ensure that customers have adequate
warranty coverage, American Honda is increasing the
warranty on the transmission and the torque converter
to 93 months (7 years and 9 months) or 109,000 miles,
whichever occurs first.

There were five recalls on the 2000 Accord for different reasons: one for rear seat belts, one for airbag sensors, one for rear suspension, one for instrument panel lights (V-6 only) and one for a shift interlock problem. You need to call a Honda dealer and give them your vehicle identification number to see if your vehicle is involved in any of them as these recalls do not apply to all 2000 Accords; also, they recalls if they did apply may have been completed before you bought the car.

recalls apply to the car, not to the owner, so if there are any open recalls they will be done at no charge.

the only exclusions of the warranty extension are those that apply to normal warranty–exclusions include a lack of maintenance, damage, accident, abuse etc.

hope that helps

Q: Did you know that Honda had more recalls per vehicle than any of the Big Three Last year?
Not only did they have more recalls, but they had more problems per 100 vehicles than Lincoln, Mercury, Chrysler, and Cadillac?

Sounds like the Japanese aren’t as reliable as we think.
Actually, Chrysler, Ford and GM are quick to recall repeated problems. Nowadays with people going crazy over law suits, it is cheaper and easier to recall cars than get sued.

A: Honda’s built in America are not American cars.Yes Honda,Mercedes Benz and other supposedly better than American cars have lots of recalls. So of them for some really serious problems. The problem being the public so brain washed by lies and TV commericals can not face the reality that there overrated junk. The only reason you do not here about the recalls like you do with American cars is because since they are built by foreign manufactures they do not have to apply to the same rules that we do.

Q: With Toyota and Honda recalls happening large scale, will they be eligible for large bailouts from US $$$?

A: No toyota is not gonna request for a bailout. And even if they did, it wouldn’t be requested. The trust in the people and the government has been lost. On top of that, since toyota factories are non union and detroit(all american cars) are also doesn’t put in a good name for Toyota. We are working on doing everything we can, and fixing all the cars to hopefully regain the trust in the people. Every car make has had problems before, yes this is a major one but like i said, it was an accident that wasn’t ever meant to happen.

Q: Is there a legitimate place to find Honda Recalls?

A: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov as the National Hightway Traffic and Safety Administration is the formal agency that monitors the recalls.

hope that helps

Q: Honda recalls,what quality?
Honda recalled about 1 million vehicles last week, what happened to thier quality? And don’t tell me it is a good thing and then when GM,Ford or Chrysler recall vehicles say it is because of thier quality.
Work at Toledo Jeep assembly, home of Jeep Wrangler,Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro.

A: i own a repair shop and i have known the quality of them was falling off for years, and people get really mad at you if you say anything about a Honda or a Toyota, but the truth is there trying so hard to out sell American cars there letting a lot of things slip by them, and this is helping the American car company’s make a good come back,i myself wouldn’t buy a Honda or a Toyota, but i have owned them before, and got rid of them because i had no better luck from them than i did a dodge or a Chevy, now i own a few of each, dodge and Chevy’s and will stay true to them ,even if they do give an occasional problem, good luck hope this helps.

Q: Does anyone else out there find it interesting that Toyota and Honda are having recalls but Goverment Motors..?
Cough…General Motors keeps on chugging along with their umm how should I say it. Great cars, that’s an under statement.

A: Nice try, but GM has just as many recalls out right now as anyone else. Don’t believe me? Just look through the list:

The government and media are just blowing the Toyota and Honda recalls out of proportion so people loose faith in imports and buy more domestics.

Q: What are they doing with the Honda recall?
I have a 2002 Honda Accord Sedan and I just read that they’ll be doing a recall due to faulty airbags. What should I expect to happen? Will they actually fix my car or replace it with another one just like it? Just curious…i think anyone would hope for a new car!

A: They’re just going to get a safer airbag for the car.

Like the first person said, there’s a 95% you won’t get a new car.

Q: How do I know if my honda was recalled?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100210/ap_on_bi_ge/as_japan_honda_recall_5

it says “Honda says owners should take their vehicles to dealerships as soon as they are notified by the company in writing. Notification will begin during the month of February.”

BUT we bought ours used from a Mitsubishi dealer in 2005… so how we will be notified? Do I have to do anything?

A: as a honda service employee i can tell you that it is NOT by year of vehicle but by the VIN (vehicle identification number) this is located all over your car, most noticable in the drivers door jamb or the bottom corner of the drivers side window. at this time 2/11/2010 3pm PST, American Honda has not given us (the dealerships) the info on the vehicles involved. once they make the determination you will be recieving a letter from AMERICAN HONDA not your local dealer. if you are one of those people that worry alot you can bug your local dealership with you VIN and once all the info gets processed thorugh Honda computer software they will have that information

Q: Honda/Toyota recalls?
Will the recent recalls have any impact on Honda and Toyota popularity?
If yes who will benefit from this? Is it good for Ford or any American cars?

A: I don’t think Honda will be effected much. But they have said on the news that Toyota sales are down & resales are also down by as much as 15%. Ford & GM sales were already on the rebound despite their problems. That is b/c these two companies have improved their quality & people have taken notice. I did b/c I bought a 2010 Malibu which I might add is a kick a** car.

Q: where can I find honda car recalls?

A: NTSB site

Q: Are 1997 honda civic dx known to have alot of electrical problems and have there ever been any recalls ?
My daughter has a 1997 honda civic dx and has had electrical problems fixed numerous times. Now she can’t play the factory installed cd player, turn the windshield wipers and the signal light on at the same time. The cd player will stop playing and the speedometer hand goes haywire.

A: I do remember hearing about the electrical starter switch, or starter something. I have a 2000 civic myself, and no problems yet. I did look up re-calls and I would also have your local mechanic check for you as well. You night have to have things re-wired all together . Sounds like someone messed it up, or things are short circuiting.

Q: about recalls on honda?
i bought my 95 honda accord in 2000 from honda dealership. car had recall on airbag control in 96 but they never told me that there was recall when i bought my car and recently my airbag deployed unexpectedly. isnt honda responsible for my airbags? since they never told me when i bought my car or contacted me
thank you
i already talk to honda and honda dealer but they are saying it was my fault because i didnt check
recall hasn’t been expired yet

A: That all depends on what the details of the recall are. Some recalls expire within certain time frames while others are valid for years.

I assume you’ve spoke to Honda directly and not just the dealership, if not then you should. You should also contact your local dealer and ask to see the Honda service representative. They usually make monthly visits to the dealerships but this can vary depending on size and location of the dealership.

A note to the wise–Ask to speak directly during to him/her and not via phone. It’s amazing what can be accomplished during a face to face meeting rather a phone call.

At my former job as service manager of a dealership I made it a habit to check all vehicles on the lot for recalls, I’m not surprised they didn’t though. Some do and some don’t.

I also recommend (In my instructional course–see the web site below) that any used car someone is considering to purchase should always be checked for any open recalls and campaigns. This can be done very easily by the dealer or manufacturer.

Good Luck

Jerry
