Q: How Much Will It Cost For A New Honda Prelude Engine?
Ya Im getting a 1993 Honda Prelude from free from a friend because the engine is totally gone. And I get my license in a few months, so I was just wondering if anybody new around how much it will cost to buy and have someone install a 2.2L VTEC 5-Speed Engine. If anybody can answer this it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Tiger Japanese is a great site for honda motors. They have start-up garrentees, warranties and cheap shipping. I seen both prelude motors from 92-95 vtec and non-vtec for $750 and if you look around and make afew phone calls you could find a shop that’ll install between $350-$700. Your looking at a price range of $1000 to 1400

Q: Do you think they are ever going to come out with a new honda prelude?
i hope so! do yo u know?

A: Doubt it, just buy an current one and have some fun driving it. I don’t like a majority of the new cars out.

Q: Getting a new ‘91 Honda Prelude radio installation?
With my old speakers and radio, only one out of four worked. Now I have four new speakers, and the only same one works consistently. the other three are either at half volume sometimes and silent other times. the circuit city guy said that there is something wrong w/ the outputs on the radio/stereo.

if i bought a new stereo would i be able to install it myself (save $50).

can i get a used stereo? do only some stereos fit?

A: all stereos will fit. do not cut the original wire harness, buy an adapter harness and connect all the wires from the new stereo onto the adapter harness. there will be instruction with the cross reference on the adapters package. then plug it into the original harness. for Honda’s that year the opening of the stereo compartment is a universal dimensioned opening for the standard size stereos. unbolt the stock stereo and remove it, the new stereo should have a sleeve that comes with it. first take care of the wiring and then put the sleeve into the opening and press/bend the locking pins towards the inside of the openings frame. reach in and pull the harness and the antenna cable out then plug it to the stereo. carefully insert and push the stereo into the opening. reach under the dash to pull the harness back further into the dash so the stereo can seat firmly and lock in place onto the sleeve.

by these parts, you can find them at any place that sale car audio products. it will work with any stereo.

you can buy a used stereo but it doesn’t come with a manufactures warranty. usually there is always something wrong with a used stereo. try your luck.

Q: How much would a new transmission cost on a 97 Honda Prelude?
I am thinking of buying one but it needs a new transmission. Do you think that it will be cheaper at a junk yard or have it rebuilt also.

A: Skip over it my friend. I have a 98 prelude, and the 97-01 Prelude’s (automatic only) have a major issue with the transmission. So skip over it, cause i’m on my 3rd auto transmission. You’ll save yourself a ton of money by just getting another car because even if you get a transmission it probably wont last you that much longer anyways. A new Prelude automatic transmission will run you about $3000+ at the dealer. thats for a new one. A rebuilt one will cost you about $1000 + labor (labor is usually around $500-$1000 depending on who does it – more if its a dealer). So yeah, being an owner of one, my advice would be to skip over it and get another Honda, if its really the Prelude that you want, then get a manual not an automatic.

Q: i have 91 honda prelude put a new battery in .die hard gold 725?
725 crank amps is this battery to strong for the car?it will not stay on at
an idle.could it be the alternater or something else. the battery is brand new.

A: the battery isnt your problem… if it wont idle, but does start you probably have a fuel issue. clogged filter, worn out pump, etc.

Q: How do you convert an old AC system in a 89 Honda Prelude to a new r-134 system?
It’s an SI if that matters. Also, I put two cans of r-134 in before I knew it had to be converted. Did I ruin my compressors? What has to be replaced?

A: how did you get it in?? the fittings are different
if the fittings were all ready changed your ok

if the fittings wernt and you actually had r12 in it you need to evac the system (pull a vacume into it) add some conversion oil to it and recharge it

pros have a machiene that will tell you what is in it you may want to get it done profecinaly this time

Q: 92 Honda Prelude,How much would it cost for new and used for the computer that runs the 4 wheel steering ?
I have a chance to buy a 92 prelude that is in top shape with leather for $800 but it needs a motor, the 4 wheels steering computer and a front bumper. It has great wheels and tires, after market front lights and an intake system also.I will have to pay to have it installed too. Is it worth it?

A: no not eSuck.com, let me understand this fully you want an engine swap due to the car you buying is dead. Well you can purchase one for $1000 ship to your door at hmotorsonline.com, labor $400-800 is the ecu coming the 4WS arent good for racing GL

Q: need new engine for a 1988 Honda prelude, what options do I have?
The engine is a 2.0L SOHC. I need it replaced and I wanna know what other engines will work, and which is best?

A: The best engine for prelude is H22A its a VTEC 2.2 litre. producing 220bhp and 190 Nm of torque. Fast enough to outrun most 3litre europeans.

Q: How do I find the the engine diagram for an 86 Honda Prelude. My belt broke, and I need to put a new one on.?
That’s pretty much it. I need to but a belt on my engine but I don’t know where to put it. I need some sort of schematic or something. 86 Honda Prelude.

A: I know on most models there is a sticker under teh hood located around teh radiator area that will show the route of the belt. But being an 86 it is possible it is long gone, I know most auto part stores like Autozone in there self help section online you can look up just about every diagram you need. Autozone.com is usually my first stop.

Q: H22 Vtec swap (Honda Prelude) or new car?
Basicly im running a F22 (140hp SOHC) baseline ‘S” model engine on a 1994 Honda Prelude with 62k miles. My wonder is if switching it over to a H22 Vtec motor would be seriously worth it. I’ve heard from 5-7grand is the lowest, and I DO NOT currently have a manual tranny. So rather then doing a h22 swap (even though I love my Prelude) I was thinking of doing a down payment on a 08 Civic Si or just even buying a new car with equal horsepower. I love the Prelude and I love Honda’s..but I also adore the new Civic.. so theres my question.

A: the 08 civic si is not all whats its cracked up to be trust me…
do the swap, you’ll have more fun and pride in it. ludes are very sexy, the new si eegh its ok. the site below has good prices and to be honest if you go to any motor shop most have warrentys that last 30 days , most motor problems show sooner than that.

d series to a b20 in my eg and best thing i ever did was to keep my car.. . i would be making payments on soemthing that i couldn’t change anything on unless i wanted to void a warrenty …. what fun is that?

Q: I have a 1993 Honda Prelude and im gonna drop a new engine in it. I wanna hear suggestions?
Really don’t know about cars but I blew my Head Gasket and the car overheated and i don’t feel like dealing with all the problems so I wanna know what you guys think I should drop in it? Everything you would do to it because ill be starting soon!
O also tell me what you guys would do if you had a high budget and then a low budget please.

A: on a low budget I’ll just throw in a H22 and call it a day
but with a high budget I’ll find me a F20b, it’s a bad ass engine

Q: I’m looking for brand new original black floor mats for a 1995 Honda Prelude. Where can I find this item?
I do not want custom fitted mats, only the original mats made by Honda. Thanks!

A: try craigslist or ebay. ebay will most likely have them. but you gatta pay the shipping and stuff. id try craigslist. because you never know. someone near you could have them. but if money is no problem ebay it.

Q: how much does it cost for a new clutch plate on honda prelude?

A: You need a new clutch plate, pressure plate and throw out bearing. These will cost over $150 at the auto parts store. It make cost twice or three times that to install them.

Q: Why did Honda stop manufacturing the Prelude?
And does Honda plan to relaunch it in the coming couple of years?

Also does Honda have new preludes in stock?

PS: dont tell me they replaced it with S2000 coz it’s very different mechanically…

And Please: only people who have certain knowledge answer…

Thank you!

A: The Prelude was the car that Honda used most of it’s cutting edge technology on. Examples of that would be the early 4 wheel steering, and the latter Active Torque Transfer System (ATTS) found in the Prelude SH (Super Handling), as well as the Sport Shift Technology which was very similar to the Tiptronic found on most cars today but more commonly the Porsche Carrera.

The popularity and sales drop contributed to it leaving Honda’s product line in 2001. It may return in future years as a retro revamp but not anytime soon. Honda has moved on from large sporty coupes to sedans, suv’s, trucks and rear wheel drive sports cars. I would expect a CRX/Del Sol to be put in the line up before a Prelude.
